On May 2nd, 2011, Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper won the election. His Conservative Party won 167 seats. Jack Layton and the NDP won the Official Opposition with 102 seats. Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals won 34 seats and lost in his own riding. Gilles Duceppe also lost in his riding, and his bloc Québecois won 4 seats. Elizabeth May won her Green Party's first seat in the BC riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands. That was the only seat the Greens won in.
